Originally written for a Christmas play and to be sung by Mary - funny the things, places, words we remember - or forget - "so far from home". It’s a long way to Bethlehem, but they had to go,
And Mary Kept All These Things

The Romans commanded and you can’t say, “No”
Mary’s baby was born there, so far from home,
Laid in a manger, in the animals’ room.
And Mary kept all these things in her heart.
The night of the birth, some shepherds came;
They brought with them presents, maybe a lamb.
They said the angels sent them, how else could they know,
The babe in the manger into glory would grow?
And Mary kept all these things in her heart.
Three rich wise men came, came from afar,
‘cross the desert from Babylon, they’d followed a star,
They brought with them presents – myrrh, frankincense, gold;
A King born to suffer, the future foretold.
And Mary kept all these things in her heart.
It seemed that the baby, lit up the room;
The light of the world to banish the gloom.
His life was a beacon, now all these years on,
Because He’s still with us, we shine as he shone.
And Mary kept all these things in her heart.
And Mary kept all these things in her heart.
