Although the Trust is not tied to any one church or denomination, John, Mark and Jenny are all members of Shipley Baptist Church (SBC). SBC are one of our major funders and they also support our work pastorally and in prayer. The Trust works closely with SBC on a number of projects. Every year, at the beginning of the summer holidays, the team work alongside the church to run the Shipley Baptist Holiday Club for children aged 5-11. The club is often based on material from Scripture Union and sees the church transformed into anything from a tropical island to a snowy mountain peak! 2005’s club was Landlubbers, which saw leaders and children dressing up as pirates as they learnt about Paul’s letter to the Philippians. The daily schedule usually includes singing, drama, comedy, craft, silly games, and time with group leaders. Great fun is always had by all! For 2006, expect lots of jokes about mummies as we head to Egypt for Pyramid Rock! Zephaniah and SBC also work together on one-off projects, including community festivals and fun days. At the end of July 2005, Mark worked with Community Artist Katie Jones to co-ordinate Shipley Fun Day, a community event which included the rejuvenation of a large mural, drumming and circus workshops, bouncy castle, face-painting, storytelling and BBQ, all based in the SBC car park. The event brought people of all ages together for an afternoon of fun and relaxation and was planned to fill the hole left by the absence of Shipley Festival.
