Open the Book

We work with Christians Together in Shipley to run the Open the Book project in the town's primary schools. Open the Book is a national project - visit their own website here.

Open the Book sends trained teams of volunteer storytellers to take regular assemblies in schools, using stories from The Lion Storyteller Bible by Bob Hartman. Each story is supported by a set of props or visual aids put together by a volunteer team of props makers. The stories build up over time to provide the children with an overview of God's big story.

We have been running the project in Shipley since 2007 and currently have teams of storytellers making fortnightly visits to five different primary schools in the town. We also support several teams working independently in other parts of Bradford. The assemblies feature a song specially written by John for Open the Book Shipley, available on his album Haven't You Heard.

Our involvement in Open the Book is localised to the Shipley/Bradford area, but please contact us if you would like more information, or visit the national Open the Book website. We can provide training in storytelling and working in schools and may be able to provide further support.

"Makes Bible messages come to life in a relevant, interesting way that is age-appropriate. Great visual aids!"
