Re:winds & Fast Forward

We run this annual programme of RE events in Shipley, Wrose and Idle, for local primary schools, teaching hundreds of children about Christmas and Easter, and looking at the transition to secondary school.

Based on Scripture Union material, the programme lasts approximately an hour and a half, using a mix of small group work, games, quizzes, video clips, storytelling, craft, activity books and a talk to bring the subject to life. Based in a local church so that schools can walk their children to the event, we bring different primary schools together to learn alongside each other. The events are staffed by our workers and a team of our volunteers. We currently work in partnership with Shipley Baptist Church, St Cuthbert's Church Wrose, and Idle Baptist Church, to run these events.

"I must write to say a very big thank you for all the events that you have hosted this year. All the teachers have been very positive about all the events attended. Regularly on return to school the feedback that I have received has included words such as 'wonderful, fantastic, great.'
Mary Connor, Head, St Walburga's Catholic Primary School Shipley

Re:wind to Christmas (for year 6) and Re:wind to Easter (year 5) look at our contemporary celebrations of these festivals before taking the children back in time to hear about what Christians believe. At Christmas, they are taken back to meet the shepherds, while the Easter programme takes them through the events of Holy Week. This is followed by a talk and a challenge to take away with them.

Fast Forward is for year 6 classes who are moving up to secondary school and uses a range of creative means to help the students explore questions around transition. One of the major benefits of this event is that it allows students to meet others from different primary schools who will be going to the same secondary school as them. At the end of the session, our staff and volunteers pledge to pray for the children on the first day of their new term.

"Staff are delighted with the input and pupils benefit greatly."

"Enhances the Christian message we aim to pass on."
